Indeed a very plausible sequence of events. Congress may be down and out but they're not stupid. On the contrary BJP is quite capable of messing up their own prospects, as we've seen in the past.
Yes, it'd be foolish to write off Congress just yet.

I landed here after following your link in a mail to IAC volunteers about art 311 of the Constitution. It is not merely art 311 that should not have been there, the whole Constitution is a fraud perpetuated on the citizens. Democracy exists only in its preamble. As Mr Milap Chand Choraria has rightly pointed put it is a reproduction of the Govt of India Act of 1935- a law made by the colonial masters to provide limited local self govt to their slaves!
